Switch2 Electronic Cigarettes & E-Liquid
E-Liquid & Nicotine Safety Information
E-Liquid, except where you have purchased it with 0mg nicotine, contains nicotine. Nicotine in its’ pure form is classed as a poison and is extremely toxic. Ingestion of pure nicotine or contact with the skin can be lethal.
However, the quantities in our E-Liquid and indeed most brands are extremely small, carefully measured and controlled and when used as intended are no more harmful than the nicotine content in a tobacco cigarette.
Currently the highest strength of nicotine we use in our E-Liquid (as supplied by Juicy Vapor) is 24 milligrams per millilitre of E-Liquid. This means that in 1 ml cartridge there will be a maximum of 24/1000’s of a gram of nicotine (compared to 1000/1000’s of a gram in pure nicotine). Therefore in normal use it is not dangerous and has been deemed to be safe in all laboratory test of E-Liquid to date. Moreover the use of E-Liquid in an electronic cigarette has been deemed by Doctors and other qualified professionals to be vastly less damaging to your health than smoking tobacco, not least because E-Liquid contains no carcinogens and unlike a cigarette does not produce tar or carbon monoxide when it is used.
You should however be careful where you purchase your E-Liquid from and avoid buying it from suppliers who can’t tell you what’s in it, especially because the manufacture and supply of E-Liquid is not presently regulated in the UK. At Switch2 we only sell Juicy Vapor E-liquid which is sourced and manufactured in the US to the highest standards and we can tell you what’s in it (see info on Juicy Vapor E-Liquid).
Just as with other forms of nicotine consumption (cigarettes, patches, gum etc.), the use of E-Liquid containing nicotine should be avoided if you are pregnant, breast-feeding, have liver or heart disease or suffer from high blood pressure. If in doubt please consult your doctor. If E-Liquid comes into contact with your skin or you get some in your mouth, don’t panic, simply wash your skin or rinse your mouth with water.
E-Liquid is not for sale to persons under 18yrs. We recommend it only to existing smokers who already have a nicotine habit/addiction and who are therefore established users. If you don’t already smoke, then please don’t start. E-Liquid should be securely stored away from children and pets at all times. In the event of an accident or if you feel unwell seek medical attention immediately.
Lithium Battery Safety Information
Lithium batteries are supplied for use with all models of Switch2 Electronic Cigarettes. Although ideal for use in applications that require high currents (electronic cigarettes function best with currents of 3.7-4.2V), rapid discharge of a battery can result in overheating of the battery, rupture, leakage and possibly even explosion.
To get the best performance from your battery and to avoid accidental damage and accidents, always read the manufactures instructions carefully before use. In addition, please observe the following safety guidelines at all times;
*Over charging will decrease the performance of your battery, leading to shorter battery life between charges and reducing the number of times you can recharge your battery. In extreme circumstances it can also lead to fire or explosion. ** Dirty connections can cause poor performance of your electronic cigarette and can shorten battery life or cause battery failure. Take care when cleaning not to leave combustible fibres from cloths etc on or around the battery connection.
We regret that due to the possibility of damage through misuse we can only offer a 3 day warranty on these batteries. Please charge and test in accordance with instructions and notify us within 72hrs of date of arrival of any faults. .
When used correctly the batteries are very reliable and can usually be recharged up to 300 times. However please note they are expendable and will eventually wear out and need to be replaced. We strongly recommend you visit Battery University http://batteryuniversity.com/ in order to learn how to obtain the best performance and maximum life from your e-cig batteries.
Use and care of your S2G Cartomizer
Your SG2 Cartomizer is sold as a single use atomizer/cartridge. However, with proper care it can in practice be refilled and used at least 4-8 times before it needs replacing. The amount of use obtained will vary according to the brand and flavour of E-Liquid used ( different mixes will vary in viscosity which can impact upon performance and lifespan) and the frequency with which you use each cartomizer. Adhering to the following guidelines will prolong the life of your S2G Cartomizer:
about Propylene Glycol & Glycerine
Paul Bergen, from Tobacco Harm Reduction summarises
the current research into propylene glycol, one of the principal ingredients of
the E-Liquid in most electronic cigarettes. He also examines the safety of
vegetable glycerine, often used instead of or in addition to propylene glycol.
Visit tobaccoharmreduction.org for
further information. Highlights inserted by Switch2.
When it comes to recreational nicotine delivery, other
than one notable exception, almost every component has been considered
suspect. Propylene glycol (PG), the
liquid which when heated in electronic cigarettes gives rise to a tangible
vapour, a smoke-like volume, has not been targeted by anti-nicotine activists
nor have any notable health scares surfaced in the popular media.
Perhaps it is because PG has been studied for over 70
years and no evidence of danger to humans has been found. One of the
most recent studies (discussed here by
Brad Rodu) which involved subjecting dogs and rats to high concentrations of PG
in an aerosol exposure found that the results confirmed the long standing
categorization of this substance as “generally recognized as safe”.
For those who would like to look at the research
history for themselves, the National Vapers Club has a good listing of many of
the studies as does the National Library
of Medicine Toxicology Data Network. Not all of these studies have been either on humans or
on the effects specific to inhaling PG.
However, many of the studies in industrial settings have used much
higher levels of exposure than any electronic cigarette user could attain. The only caveat to this is that since
e-cigarettes are relatively recent we have no certainty as to the risks that
might attend decades of vaping.
Since we do have a huge and growing population of vapers,
we would already know that there are no serious short term complaints
associated with daily exposure to PG. There will, of course, always be a few people
who will find vaping irritating but that is not any indication of general risk.
What we do know is that based on almost a century of
considerable research, it is unlikely that there will be serious long term
effects. And we can say with certainty
that there is no possibility that these effects could in any way approach the
long term effects of tobacco smoking (The
same comparison is true in regards to 2nd hand smoke: whatever danger there is
to humans from 2nd hand tobacco smoke is magnitudes greater than any possible
harm from 2nd hand e-cigarette vapour.)
Apart from the lack of any obvious health risks found
in research on PG, one of the reasons there has been little debate about its
safety is that it already exists throughout the marketplace in everything from
food to pharmaceutical products, and
in a number of aerosol products including asthma inhalers and air
disinfectants. A very readable online
resource on the many applications of this substance has put together by the PG
manufacturers who belong to the European Chemical Industry Association.
Though it is quite likely that in the future there
will be more e-smokers with no previous experience of nicotine use, at the
present time, most e-smokers are ex-smokers.
As such, vaping represents harm reduction at its best – users voluntarily switching to a safer but
yet pleasurable mode of drug delivery. E-cigarettes satisfy precisely because
the PG fuelled nicotine delivery is so similar to smoking. While there are
reasonable concerns in regards to product quality and consistency, any of the
typical components of e-cigarette vapor delivery process are not worth worrying
.Vegetable Glycerine and Health
According to Canada Vapes up to 20% of the e-liquids
on the market are vegetable glycerine (VG) based. What is most pertinent for
health-conscious vapers is the knowledge that while VG is not the same as
Propylene Glycol (PG), the dominant vehicle used in e-cigarettes, it has a
similar risk profile. Like PG, vegetable glycerine has been classified as
“generally recognized as safe”. And like PG, this product has numerous
applications in the personal care field including oral care products. It
has also found use as a sugar substitute
- which might explain why some vapers taste an increased sweetness in
comparison to PG.
In regards to health, whether you are vaping a VG or
PG based device does not matter. However, there are some differences that could
matter from a user comfort perspective. Some individuals who have shown sensitivity to PG
(such as sore throat) have found that VG does not have the same effect. One
reported side effect that VG can also allay is muscle cramps and aches from PG
breaking down into lactic acid.. It should be kept in mind though that though
these symptoms might be uncomfortable they should not be thought of as actual
While VG is also known to produce more vapour, oddly
enough vapers have reported that it produces less of a “throat hit” . On a
practical note, the greater thickness of VG fluid can cause a reduction in the
lifespan of the atomizer (though the reduction does not seem that dramatic).
So, in summary, though some users might find they
prefer one over the other, both propylene glycol and vegetable glycerine can be
considered safe components in any e-cigarette product.
At Switch2 we
import and distribute E-Liquid made to the highest standards by Juicy Vapor in
the USA. We routinely stock their “reduced PG” variety, which combines both
propylene glycol and vegetable glycerine. We feel this offers the optimum
mixture for E-Liquid, providing good flavour transfer and good vapour
production. However flavours are
available by special order with PG or VG only if preferred.
